Cannabis to class B...pubs back to licencing hours ?
It seems that the reforming, or should I say reactionary zeal of Mr Gordon Brown appears to show all the narrow mindedness we all feared. Safety cameras being used to snoop, cannabis re-classified to a class B drug and now we see that a government report claims 24 hour drinking is turning us into a nation of intoxicated hooligans, which is of course a prequel to the re-introduction of licencing hours.....probably with no drinking on Sundays. This government are going crazy in their will to control the minds and deeds of all of us.....All the worst fears of Gordon the control freak are coming to pass. If New Labour do not get rid of him, the electorate will do it for him....that is providing he hasn't abolished elections and made himself the Rt Honourable Prime Minister for Life (King of Scotland and Conqueror of the British Empire) in the meantime. I do not wish to sound like some sort of prophet of doom, but the writing is on the wall. What's your view ?
Check out history..... this kind of "reasonable" limiting of civil liberties for the good of the nation was tried as recently as 1939...... Mr A Hitler thought it was a good idea for his citizens to be lean, fit, healthy, non-smoking, non-drug taking, fully card carrying members of his brand of society.......
I am overweight.... always have been... it's in my genes.... I smoke (but not excessively)..... I rarely drink (but I did my fair share as an adolescent).... I used to ride motorcycles.... and I am English born and bred. I always said that I like to visit other countries but wouldn't want to live anywhere else but now...... anyone got a cheap bit of land to spare in Portugal where I can set up a smallholding (having trouble persuading my local council to let me turn my 4 acres back to the smallholding it used to be 30 yrs ago).
The government now don't have anything else to do but interfere with out civil liberties - the railways etc are no longer in their hands. Sometimes you can have sympathy with the "buy a gun and take to the hills mentality of our american cousins".
